Very insightful suggestions in this webinar. Ms Ripp takes apart many of the standard reading techniques I have been a part of over the years. It will take time and a definite change in mindset and beliefs to alter the way literacy is approached in the upper grades, but I feel it is worth the effort to make the shift from assigned reading to choosing reading and continuing that choice in adult years.

I loved that you include picture books for all ages!!! There are so many picture books that now deal with different cultures, feelings, and experiences. These books can open up some great discussions! Also it is important for us to think of what we like to read, why, and why we decide to continue with that book or to stop, and that it is ok to stop and choose something else!
