Overview

Session Description:
Safety and security are of paramount importance to schools and districts, but have you done all you can do to assess and help eliminate potential risks? While no plan can be 100-percent effective, there are steps you can take to help minimize and address these risks. Join Brent Maguire as he shares ways in which your school can improve security by effectively controlling and monitoring access to school grounds and classrooms. You will also learn how to increase school security using CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) and other physical security measures such as communication capabilities, intrusion detection systems, perimeter security, after-hours security, and protective lighting.

Learning Objectives:
  • Discuss ways in which your school can improve security by effectively controlling and monitoring access to school grounds and classrooms.

  • Explain how to increase school security using CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) and other physical security measures.

  • Assessment: Participants will join a collaborative backchannel chat and discuss ways to improve school security to demonstrate their understanding of the session objectives and reflect on their learning.
