This is session five of six for the series titled Literacy Projects for Adolescent English Learners
NOTE: While we recommend that you attend all sessions of the workshop series to meet the learning objectives, each workshop can be attended as a standalone. Full members will also have access to view the recordings on demand and earn up to six continuing education credits.
Workshop Description:
English Learners have a wide variety of traditions, culture, knowledge, to share with their peers. Join Shelly Terrell as she discusses how to use free, education-friendly digital publishing tools to encourage student self-expression, including scaffolds, supports, and strategies to help students complete their projects. Participants will also have an opportunity to access done-for-you templates to create their own digital storytelling project that they can immediately use with their students.
Learning Objectives:
Evaluate a variety of free, education-friendly digital publishing tools appropriate for adolescent English Learners in grades 4-12
Develop scaffolds, supports, and strategies to help English Learners complete their own digital storytelling projects
Create a content-specific digital storytelling project for English Learners that enhances the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing
Special Technology Instructions: Participants will need access to an internet device and a non-school, personal Google account. SimpleK12’s Google Classroom will be utilized for the interactive and hands-on components of this workshop.
Assessment: Participants will create a content-specific digital storytelling project to demonstrate their understanding of the workshop objectives and reflect on their learning.
