This is session three of six for the series titled Literacy Projects for Adolescent English Learners
NOTE: While we recommend that you attend all sessions of the workshop series to meet the learning objectives, each workshop can be attended as a standalone. Full members will also have access to view the recordings on demand and earn up to six continuing education credits.
Workshop Description:
For English Learners, the most challenging part of completing a research project is gathering information and data that they can read and understand. Join Shelly Terrell as she shares how to use free, education-friendly infographic design tools to enhance student data visualization, including scaffolds, supports, and strategies to help students complete their projects. Participants will also have an opportunity to access done-for-you templates to create their own infographic project that they can immediately use with their students.
Learning Objectives:
Evaluate a variety of free, education-friendly infographic design tools appropriate for adolescent English Learners in grades 4-12
Develop scaffolds, supports, and strategies to help English Learners complete their own infographic projects
Create a content-specific infographic project for English Learners that enhances the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing
Special Technology Instructions: Participants will need access to an internet device and a non-school, personal Google account. SimpleK12’s Google Classroom will be utilized for the interactive and hands-on components of this workshop.
Assessment: Participants will create a content-specific comics project to demonstrate their understanding of the workshop objectives and reflect on their learning.
