Would you like to be more inclusive of all students and cultures in your classroom, but just aren't sure where to start or what to do? As education continues to focus on achievement and academics, it is crucial for us to focus on the social-emotional aspect of our students. If we don't have an environment of equity and acceptance within our classrooms, we will not effectively decrease the achievement gap. Within the Critical Practices guide, published by Teaching Tolerance, four sections are discussed: Instruction, Classroom Culture, Family and Community Engagement, and Teacher Leadership. In this webinar, Megan Fuciarelli will explore each of these sections and discuss how these practices can provide a more equitable environment for our students. In addition to explaining each critical practice, she will provide best practices and useful strategies that you can implement in your classroom or school.

Thank you for promoting diversity, inclusion, equality, and justice; discrimination, exclusion, bias, and injustice have to be called out and remediated. Students only benefit from learning about their own cultures and those of others.

It is so important that we remember our cultures will most often not line up with the cultures of our students. We need to do our best to learn about our students and how their culture has shaped who they are and how they learn. This is cultural sensitivity.
