Relinquishing Control: How to Make Gifted Students Responsible for Their Learning
Overview
As teachers, many of us like having control over everything that happens in our classrooms; however, in maintaining that control, we've also taken away a lot of the responsibility for learning from our students. It's time to relinquish that control and put much of the accountability for learning back where it belongs - with the students, and gifted students are no exception, as they often thrive best when challenged. Join Lauren Boucher as she explores how she used learning contracts and rubrics to relinquish control in her gifted classroom. She will provide classroom activities, as well as sample rubrics, contracts, and presentations to use with your students. Lauren will also share personal experiences to help you be better prepared for student and parent reactions. Discover how to let go and allow your students excel. While many of the examples shared are from a gifted class, they are adaptable and applicable for use with all students.
