An ongoing debate rages among many educators over whether or not homework is truly necessary in today's classrooms. In this webinar, Pernille Ripp discusses her own journey away from homework and the ups and downs of helping parents understand, as well as how to still promote time-management, responsibility, and practice. This webinar is meant primarily for elementary and middle-school teachers who want to move away from homework or who are curious about the journey, as well as for parents who would like to support their student in their quest to be homework free.

Forms will be shared to help students prepare for conferences, and various modifications to their format will be discussed. While geared mainly towards elementary and middle-school teachers, other educators may find value in the discussion as well.

Great presentation, very thought provoking, and different from when I was in school myself. I like her idea of reading not counting as homework.
What ever happened to the old adage practice makes perfect. Very informative information hope this policy will help raise SAT scores.

Great to hear someone who understands what I have observed and now implement in my own classroom. I am blessed to teach in a system that allows for creative thinking and ideas and I have been able to "grade my students learning" as I say. Parents have been very supportive and I am always surprised how much they are willing to reflect on the purpose of education. Many of my students' parents have been successful in the "real world" and they are willing to hear new ideas. I have been working at this for 18 years, and this year was a turning point. At back to school night with parents I presented my ideas for not so much homework, it was received with applause and a comment from one parent, "I vote for you for the head of the Department of Education." Parents seem to know school needs reform, they know the world is changing and they want their children to be able to think and adapt to change as well.
