Overview

An ongoing debate rages among many educators over whether or not homework is truly necessary in today's classrooms. In this webinar, Pernille Ripp discusses her own journey away from homework and the ups and downs of helping parents understand, as well as how to still promote time-management, responsibility, and practice. This webinar is meant primarily for elementary and middle-school teachers who want to move away from homework or who are curious about the journey, as well as for parents who would like to support their student in their quest to be homework free.

Forms will be shared to help students prepare for conferences, and various modifications to their format will be discussed. While geared mainly towards elementary and middle-school teachers, other educators may find value in the discussion as well.

As a band director, practicing is their main homework. As a general music portion of my teaching, I needed to find different ideas of eliminating the homework. I was being overloaded between the class sizes and contents.

I already place a lot of importance on board work in 6th grade math and pre-algebra. I am going to try to eliminate even more of the homework. If I can see them working on the problem, I can catch where they are making the mistakes. Great job.

Very interesting perspective, thank you.

Great reasons for me to give less homework!

I teach at a private school where parents have demanded that I gave more homework :( I hate having all that to collect too. I will be trying to implement some of this to at least minimize the amount. Thanks
