About Me: My name is Karen Jeffery and I am the Physical Education teacher for Southwest Intermediate Learning Center. This is my 30th year of teaching and I am always excited to teach not only the standards of PE but to incorporate new techniques and learning tools into the Physical Education classroom. The use of notebooks, DVD's, laptops and guest speakers has allowed me to provide my students with the ability to learn, create and apply their knowledge as it relates to sports and health. I call part of my curriculum "PE Pumped Up". PE needs to expand beyond the health and physical roles to one of also supporting the core curriculum classes and incorporating technology. I have written several computer based projects to be use in the secondary PE classroom. These lessons are not only sport related but also support skills learned in the core curriculum classes. There are a variety of topics which are not only educational but fun to do. The lessons can be incorporated into the curriculum since they support the State Standards in PE, LA, Math Social Studies and Science. Lessons are written in two formats, one for the teacher and the other which is student friendly. When schools are looking for solutions to improve test scores, what better way to support yourself and PE by having a concrete curriculum which WORKS! The math and language arts teachers will love you when you have the ability to take some of the burden off of their shoulders. Your administration will think twice about cutting your program and or job. Please e-mail me for more information. kjeffery@silc-nm.com
