The biggest problem with K-12 education is the focus on assessment. If we were concerned about learning then the emphasis wouldn't be on assessment; it would be on providing feedback. Assessment is judgemental and final, whereas feedback is accepting and encourages growth.

If you never had to worry about making money, what would you do? I've been fortunate to have travelled to many locations around the Pacific. I would love to be able to travel to urban and natural destinations around the world.

What's the best piece of advice someone ever gave you? An eccentric college professor once made this statement to my class: "You can't have pea soup unless you split some peas." It seemed deranged at the time, but I've found myself using it often with my students.
