Her book “Passionate Learners - How to Engage and Empower Your Students” is helping teachers change the way students feel about school. If you weren't in education, what do you think you'd be doing and why?

I would be a lawyer fighting in court.

When you were a kid, you wanted to be a ______? Why?

A daycare provider because mine, Ute, was like a second mother to me.

What's your idea of happiness?

My family, a great book, perhaps a nap and even some cheesecake.

Twitter changed my life because:

It gave me the courage to change my classroom based on my gut and let me know there were others out there like me.

What are your favorite books and authors?

Gaiman, Fforde, Dylan Thomas

The teacher who had the biggest impact on me and why:

My mother, who showed me that it is good to have high expectations for your students.

If you were dictator and had total control, tomorrow education would:

Choices, hands-on and immersion in outside world applicable skills.

If you could live anywhere other than where you are, it would be:

Wherever my husband is.

The biggest problem with K-12 education is:

The focus on testing rather than the child.

What are your most treasured possessions?

My engagement ring and wedding band.

If you never had to worry about making money, what would you do?

I would teach and write and travel the world with my family, giving my kids a hands-on education.

What kind of kid were you in high school?

I tried to be popular but was just too introverted, so I just became friends with everyone.

What's the best piece of advice someone ever gave you?

That it is ok to think that you are a good person.
