Q & A with Jerry Swiatek

When you were a kid, you wanted to be a ______? Why?

A Television or radio broadcaster. The idea of being on the air speaking to thousands or millions intrigued me. I never quite got there, although I did DJ at a night club when I was a bit younger. I also worked the board and co-hosted a small sports talk show at a small radio station in Virginia.

The teacher who had the biggest impact on me and why:

Mr. Raynor, my 9th grade drafting teacher. He was the first teacher I ever had that had a computer in his room. My fascination with computing started in that classroom.

If you could live anywhere other than where you are, it would be:

There is nowhere else I’d rather be. My wife and I moved to Inverness 13 years ago from Buffalo, NY and have loved every minute of it. Our county is still quite rural but we are only an hour from Orlando and Tampa, so with 2 young children, there is always plenty to do.

I've always wanted to visit:

I’d love to have the opportunity to visit Africa and Australia. Oh, and also Europe again. I went to Europe when I was 16, but 16 year old Jerry definitely did not appreciate Europe as much as present day Jerry would.

What's the best piece of advice someone ever gave you?

My kids are young, so I’m not sure how effective my advice to them is yet but I’ve told them "Never let anyone change who you are. Always be yourself."
