Lauren Boucher

Lauren Boucher is a Regional Digital Teaching and Learning Consultant for the state of North Carolina and a former Instructional Technology Specialist with Pitt County Schools. She has taught third grade, as well as elementary and middle school gifted education. Lauren is passionate about the transforming effect technology can have on the teaching and learning experience, and about inspiring classroom teachers to incorporate technology into their everyday routines. Most of her time is spent working with teachers to incorporate 1:1 technologies, sharing Web 2.0 tools with teachers, developing classroom and device management plans, and writing the Latin curriculum for her district's gifted program.

As a North Carolina Teaching Fellow, Lauren earned a B.S. and Master's degree in Elementary Education. She is licensed to teach K-12 academically gifted, and will add the Computers in Education special endorsement to her teaching license in 2014. She is a SMART certified lesson developer and a SMART Exemplary Educator. Lauren presents at numerous local and state conferences on using technology in the classroom.

Q & A with Lauren Boucher

If you weren't in education, what do you think you'd be doing and why?

I think I would be doing something with animals. I wouldn't want to be a vet, but maybe volunteering at a shelter, or working at a zoo.

When you were a kid, you wanted to be a ______? Why?

I have never wanted to do anything but teach. In fact, in daycare, the teachers would let me "teach" on Fridays. My mom would buy me a bag of M & Ms to hand out as prizes for right answers.

What's your idea of happiness?

My idea of happiness is being with my family with nothing on the calendar.

Twitter changed my life because I now have access to an unlimited number of subject matter experts, and I can ask a question and get an answer almost immediately.

What are your favorite books and authors?

I will read anything written by Nora Roberts and Dave Ramsey. I love the characters is Nora Roberts novels, and I love how each of her main characters has a different profession. Ms. Roberts obviously researches these professions in depth, so I get to learn something new, read great dialogue, and get my romance fix all at the same time! Dave Ramsey's information on handling money God's way so inspiring and he's got a great sense of humor!

If you were dictator and had total control, tomorrow education would:

If I were a dictator, teachers would be paid for the education and licenses they receive, the hours they put in, and the lives positively impacted. Parents wouldn't be allowed to disrespect their child's teachers, and would be supportive of their efforts in the classroom. If I were dictator, every classroom would be equipped with the tools and resources necessary to educate students for life and careers in the 21st Century. Oh, the possibilities are endless!

If you could live anywhere other than where you are, it would be:

If I could live anywhere, it would be Florence, Italy. My husband and I visited there in 2009 and left our hearts. It is our plan to retire there.

If you never had to worry about making money, what would you do?

If I never had to worry about money, I'd be a full time student. I love learning new things!

What kind of kid were you in high school?

I was a bookworm in high school. Although I played sports, and kept the score book for sports during my off seasons, I much preferred to chill at my house with a good book...I'm still that way.

What's the best piece of advice someone ever gave you?

The best advice anyone ever gave me was to be work hard and do your best, and good things will happen!
