Take you own Learning Targets from your curriculum and make your own so they match YOUR culture and climate of curriculum.

Example for Kindergarten:

These are the Learning Targets for one unit:

Identify the character(s)in a story

Recognize when characters speak and it is called dialogue

Describe character(s)

Compare and contrast characters

Make connections to characters

Retell stories using characters

Identify the setting of a story

Explore different settings, in different stories, by the same author

Explain how the illustrations show the setting

Explain how settings can change

Demonstrate different ways to read words

Read known words to build fluency

Celebrate great reading behaviors

Now, put "I Can" in front...and you are all set. Some of them you can even simplify. Like, I can recognize when characters speak. I can call it dialogue.

TpT (TeacherspayTeachers) has a variety of I Can statements to go with the Common Core. They are given at different grade levels, some are illustrated, others not. You simply choose, pay a nominal fee, and print them out.

I have found the cutest kid-friendly I can posters/cards on Teachers Pay Teachers. The kids love them, and for only $2.50, they were a bargain because I did not have to make them. But I do like those that someone posted about from Curriculum Corner.
