I keep hearing STEAM in webinars and other places this summer but I don’t know what the “A” stands for. I am familiar with STEM and understan it is basically the same thing.

The A stands for art. I have even started seeing STREAM, where the R stands for reading.

Arts is a huge part of learning (music improving math, design thinking and art going hand-in-hand, etc) and needs to be a big part of STEAM projects. Maker spaces for example are a great STEAM area as it combines science, tech, math, engineering and art all in one spot of great learning opportunities.

Science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) subjects are the focal point of popular integrated learning systems. However, voices are calling out for the “A” in “arts” to turn STEM into STEAM.

Great Article. I agree that 'arts' brings creativity and problem solving to education in the fields of math and science. I also gives more opportunity for communication and collaboration which is essential in education.
