I am a 1:1 PCA for a student who is just starting to use an AAC. I would like to learn how to be a good and helpful communication partner for the student. I will be learning the AAC too, but I am at a disadvantage because I have fluent speech already. It will be harder for me to develop the muscle memory required by LAMP Words for Life, as I want to just SAY things verbally already. :-)

I would like to discuss techniques, strategies, and "gotchas" for being a communication partner for a student just beginning to learn how to use AAC. My 1:1 student has a bilingual Accent 800 device.

I hope some other SimpleK12 members are doing similar or related work and can help me learn to be an effective communication partner.

I already took the on-demand webinar on iPad apps for AAC. I need to go look up the "I CAN Communicate ... Please DO/DON'T" chart that the presenter mentioned.

Thanks.
