I read this article about mentoring new teachers. I really enjoy helping new teachers. Sometimes, it is challenging but most of the times is a wonderful experience. If you are a mentor, could you share your experiences.

I also enjoy mentoring new teachers. I like the fact that our school system assigns mentors and the new person coming in has someone to help them along the way. I think it makes the year easier on the new teacher to have a "go to" person.

I have learned so much from being a mentor. Most of the people I have mentored are new to teaching and come with enthusiasm & new ideas. It is a great learning experience for myself to see what teaching techniques/strategies are coming out and being used with the new teachers.

†This year has been an expectional learning experience for me with my mentor. She has taught me so much! I could sit in her room all day and learn from her.

One of the biggest rewards I find in mentoring a new teacher is friendship. I have been fortunate to mentor a few teachers that I have really come to love and call friends.

That is correct! I remembered when I arrived to USA in 2003. I have a mentor. It was my 15th year as a teacher, but it was my first time teaching in the USA. She was fantastic. She has retired, but we are still good friends. I am so glad I have her because there were so many different things than Peru. On my second year in USA, I mentor new teachers that came through the program (VIF) that brought me to NC. Later, I also mentor at my school. It is the most rewarding experience. It helps me to be a better teacher and person. I just love to help new teachers. I love their energy that they bring as well.

I start next week. I am changing grade levels and school after 15 years.
