Just curious what you all are using for typing. I am the ed tech coach at my school and we just added an ipad lab for our K-5 campus. We need something for typing that uses a keyboard, is web-based, for elementary students to teach typing. Any thoughts?

I tested several programs and like Typing Club the best. We will start using it for our third grade students. However, you have to pay for it. Typing Web is good too and it's free - it's being used at my son's middle school. Because it's free, the kids will see lots of advertisement. I'm sure you can upgrade to paid version too. Typing Agent is another web based program you have to subscribe to. For grades 1-2 I love BBC's Dance Mat Typing, a free webpage, but it won't save students' progress. Great as an introduction though: http://www.bbc.co.uk/guides/z3c6tfr

It seems a lot of schools use Type to Learn. A free option for typing lessons and practice is Dance Mat Typing. This web based resource is great for teaching students the basics of typing. The games are engaging and the students seem to enjoy this resource.

This Weebly has all kinds of typing games for students. I am not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for in your school.

I like Nitro Type. It is a web based program that is up-gradable to get rid of ads. Kids type as fast as they can while racing other students from across the country. As they type, their race car moves across the screen. They can also see the other cars they are racing which makes then type as fast as they can so they can win the race. Nitro Type does not concern itself with hand placement or using the correct fingers. With texting and tablets, we just don't type that way anymore! It's fun and free!

I like Dance Mat Typing from BBC. It is fun and works well teaching typing in stages. http://www.bbc.co.uk/guides/z3c6tfr

My school uses https://www.typing.com/ it has lesson built in for the kids, timed typing tests and games. I have my kids take a 5 minute typing test once a week and do at least 2 lessons every week. By doing the typing test we can keep track of their progress. I also started doing the lessons along with my students. My typing gets better and we can all improve together. The best part if all of it is free and records everything the students do!

My school use dance mat typing and typing test to practice for standardized testing. The students love the graphics on dance mat typing, and they take the one minute and five minute tests to see how many words they can type within that time span. They also enjoy playing sky chase game where they compete against each other online.

Our school has used Type to Learn for numerous years now. We just switched to the web based version which causes problems some days when the internet is not working fast, but overall the students love it. Some of my students really enjoy the sentences that they have to type since it is giving them interesting facts to learn while they type.
