Very informative. With social media being used more and more in school by teachers and students, it is important to create guidelines to be followed by everyone in the district.

As the technology integration specialist for our district's high school I found this webinar very informative. Steven has effectively explained seven sensible steps; examine, organize, research, draft, review, present, review. However, perhaps 8 steps would be better. Make step one simply setting an objective (what do you want to accomplish at the end of the process?). Also, I would organize a team first, and then have them examine what is currently in place at the school and district level. Use the team to walk through the remaining 6 steps. Last critique has to do with sound quality. I had a difficult time following Steven's voice through my iPad speaker. Using headphones helped.

Great info! Using the guidelines that are already put in place by the state or the district will save so much time and energy. Thanks for sharing.

Stevenís view of the daunting task of developing a policy for using social media is to use what is already in place, respect the input of the community, and be realistic.

Steven gives useful guidelines for best practice when making district wide decisions for using social media. His belief that social media is another teaching tool/available technology - rather than time wasted - is an outlook that is not always shared by non-native technology users in positions of authority in schools.

Good information about how to write social media guidelines at a building/district level. I really liked the idea of shifting our focus from what MIGHT happen to what COULD happen if we help students learn how to use social media effectively.
