Information literacy is important for today's learners. It promotes problem-solving approaches and thinking skills asking questions, seeking answers, finding information, forming opinions, evaluating sources, and making decisions. All of these help to foster successful learners, effective contributors, confident individuals, and responsible citizens. Join Howie Diblasi as he explores how you can help students learn to identify what is real and relevant not just for school, but for learning, life, and work.

Howie will include a discussion of Information Literacy models, where to get started, ways to get students thinking, and various search strategies. In addition to sharing tools and resources, he will also provide activities to develop student understanding and a checklist for evaluating Web resources.

I like your thought that sometimes students (as well as teachers) "don't know what they don't know." Some search engines you listed I have never heard of. Great resources.
