Q & A with Shirley Farrell

If you weren't in education, what do you think you'd be doing and why?

I have already been there. I have a B.S. in Horticulture. I have managed the display and growing greenhouses at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. I loved working with the plants and volunteers.

When you were a kid, you wanted to be a ______? Why?

I love to learn and always "played school." However, when I entered college I followed my love of plants because of my grandmother. She could grow anything and got me interested in plants and growing.

Twitter changed my life because:

Twitter changed my life because of all the resources that are available and the ability for people follow you. It tickles me to think that someone wants to know what I think!

What are your favorite books and authors?

My favorite books have always been science fiction and fantasy. Some of my favorite authors are Andre Norton, Ray Bradbury, Robert Heinlein, Anne McCaffery, Larry Niven, and Orson Scott Card. Of course, there are excellent children's books that fall within this genre now.
