Preparing for any type of test can be a overwhelming activity and this is especially true for high school students preparing themselves for the standardized tests. Most of them are aware of the fact that this is a time-consuming and difficult task.
In the recent period many students use ACT preparation programs in order to finish this process smoothly. While it is true that a good preparation for science concepts can significantly increase the chances to past these tests, it is also true that it is always a good idea to take care about few other things. Things like proper time management, concept knowledge as well as self-esteem, anxiety, motivation and inspiration can all affect the studentís final results.
Luckily, there are many ways that can be used in order to make this important journey less stressful and frightening. The following is a list of things that can help your preparation.
Donít compare yourself to others
It is not unusual for many parents and students to compare themselves and their children to their classmates and peers. The situations in which students try to prepare themselves in the same way as their siblings or follow the steps of their parents are very frequent too. It is natural to believe that the method that your parent used in order to ace the ACT test and enroll to a quality college can work for you too. However, each individual is different and comparison and trying to follow the same steps can often lead to confusion and problems. In some cases, this is something that can ruin your self-confidence. When the time for preparation begins, every student starts with certain level of knowledge and experience. They are already having certain studying concept and making radical changes can lead to unwanted results. So, instead of following someone else, try to improve your own system.
Work on your self-knowledge
If you want to make good progress in the preparation period, you should observe and understand your own learning preferences and techniques. Students who are able to determine their own talents, weakness and strengths and skills are creating a fertile ground for future success on these tests. Try to identify the problems you face, what makes you doubt in your abilities and what period of the day is perfect for studying. It is crucial to acknowledge the fact that various studying strategies can provide different results in students. The self-knowledge will help you become more efficient.
Setting realistic goals
Your long-term goal is to pass the exam and thatís clear. However, in order to achieve that goal you need to set few smaller goals that can be achieved easily. Look at them as some kind of milestones that can encourage you to prepare yourself in the right way. Achieving these goals will provide extra motivation and inspiration and this is something that many students miss during this crucial period in their lives. By achieving these small goals you will learn more about the learning processes and improve your overall system.
Donít forget to celebrate your success
Every time you achieve some of the previously mentioned goals you can take a small break and celebrate this achievement. This doesnít mean that you can completely relax, but taking a walk or visiting your friends once some goal is achieved should stimulate you enough to continue with the next step in your ACT preparation process.
